Montas Music was established by Aquiles Montas to facilitate access for our audiences and expanding fan base, enabling them to learn about our bands and confidently book performances for their upcoming events.

Originally from the Dominican Republic, Aquiles has resided in Portland, Oregon, for over 40 years. His journey began at Portland State University, where he earned a degree in business administration and as a very active student, he initiated the promotion of Latin music and dance. In the early 1980s, when the Hispanic community was relatively small and disconnected, Aquiles and a group of enthusiastic friends successfully fostered a vibrant dance community that has continued to thrive. Many individuals from that era still attend our shows and engage with us through social media.

Aquiles played a pivotal role in founding the first Dominican Merengue band in the region, Ritmo Tropical, led by fellow Dominican Pedro Beltran. This orchestra, alongside Nick Gefrohs' "Manteca" band, significantly transformed the entertainment landscape, leading to a lasting appreciation for Latin music among Portlanders.

In 1987, Aquiles left Ritmo Tropical to embark on a new project, bringing along Gilberto Garzola "Papaito" a well know singer from the Seattle area, as well as vocalists Manuela Figueroa and Roberto Cruz, and percussionist and friend Amador Marcano, former members of Ritmo Tropical. With a fresh vision and direction, Aquiles founded what is now recognized as Conjunto Alegre, Portland's own salsa band and the longest-established band in the Pacific Northwest.
